Be Brutally Honest with Yourself

Having spent the majority of my life studying and coaching top producers and having a Ph.D. in Human Performance I’ve realized that success isn’t quite as complicated as we try to make it out to be.

If you’re not having the desired results you think you should be having quick enough then you’re probably in one of two categories right now…

Reason #1: You don’t know WHAT to do. Reason #2: You know what to do but simply aren’t consistent in doing it.

I hate to oversimplify this because running and operating your own business by no means is easy. However, I want you to have a crucial conversation with yourself, and to help you work through the solutions based on which category you fall into.

Reason #1: You don’t know WHAT to do If you don’t know what to do or how to do it then the solution would be the following: Spend AT LEAST 30-minutes per day sharpening your knowledge and skills.


  • Have one or two mentors who you can call and seek advice from
  • Have one or two disciples who you consistently study their materials
  • Spend free time (non-selling hours) learning more about your products/services


  • What 3-5 skills are crucial to your short-term success in your industry?
  • Spend time daily sharpening your skills such as scripts, objection handling, listening skills, phone skills, one-to-one skills, etc.

Reason #2: You simply aren’t doing it. Unfortunately, a lot of producers fall into this category because it’s either harder than we thought or it takes longer than we thought. Your business should almost be “boring” in terms of the daily activities we know we should be doing.

Daily Accountability

  • Training isn’t something we “did” it’s something we do.
  • Have clear, tangible benchmarks around sales activities
  • We all need some form of accountability Everybody needs a coach in life

When we know better we should do better. If not, then we are simply being negligent to our future success and our potential. Sometimes it’s ok to be hard on yourself when you know you aren’t doing the heavy-lifting required daily to be successful. I’m giving you permission to get an edge to you and to tap into that competitive spirit. Especially if you fall into category number two.

We will far more regret what we could have done, should have done, but did not do in life.
