Spot on!!

Mr. Werner is spot on. We are professionals who, I believe, are under constant attack by both the press and websites claiming they can sell real property cheaper and better than a REALTOR®. This is part of the reason some feel they need to apologize for what they earn. I'm looking forward to this series. Kent Wolfe REALTOR®. Sun Realty, FL

Excellent Perspective

I really enjoyed this video. Since 2007, I have devoted the bulk of my real estate practice to short sales, and if you think it's tough in "normal" transactions, multiply that exponentially to understand the obstacles to closing short sale transactions! Why are we still working under, as you say, a "pro bono", prayer-based, commission-at-close-IF-you-close model? Banks pay their negotiation staffs, right? Mortgage originators get paid. Why is it that those of us who labor diligently to help distressed homeowners "untangle" the financial/mortgage messes they are in, who work ten times harder and longer on every transaction, and can be derailed by the Sellers, the Buyers, the banks, the investors, or anyone else with a say in approving a short sale, with virtually NO support from NAR, persist? It's pretty discouraging, to say the least! If I didn't truly believe that every distressed homeowner deserves an advocate to help them avoid foreclosure, and to help them negotiate a fair settlement with their lenders, I could never have devoted so much of my real estate career to short sales. To maintain my "sanity", I'm moving toward a much more "balanced" approach to real estate by working with more Buyers, and more non-distressed transactions. I have had to develop extraordinary skills in empathizing with distressed sellers, educating them about their alternatives and, as painlessly as possible, navigating them through the myriad programs and government regulations related to short sales (think MARS), negotiating, organizing and maintaining sensitive financial information and documents, AND complying with all of the state and federal requirements and FTC rules and Gramm-Leach-Bliley's a TOTALLY under-appreciated niche. So, I AM proud of what I do, and I DO know that my clients appreciate what I do; my enormous referral business speaks to that. I appreciate your efforts, Dave, to encourage pride in our profession, and to educate real estate agents and the public about what our job really demands and the value we bring to every real estate transaction. THANK YOU!
